The present study was aimed to estimate cardiovascular and cytogenetic changes on rats induced obesity by monosodium glutamate (MSG). The study was performed on 90 newborn male rats which divided into 2 groups, the 1st group were treated with MSG at dose 4 mg/g IP once daily for 4 consecutive days, while as 2nd group served as control (Placebo). After 4 weeks from the first injection, five male rats were taken randomly from each group and the Body Weight (BW), Body Mass Index (BMI), leptin (LEP), Triglycerides (TG), Troponin-I (cTnI), cytogenetic study, myocardial fibrosis ratio and obese gene expression have been measured. All results revealed a significant increase in mean value (P<0.05) in treated group when compared with control group. While a results of myocardial fibrosis ratio photomicrograph showed myocardial interstitial fibrosis, collagen bundles and necrosis of myocytes forming a spaces in cardiac parenchyma. This study concluded the MSG have ability to induce obesity and its complications in rats by causing increasing of obese gene expression in adipose tissue, leptin resistance, in addition to increasing of BW, BMI and serum triglycerides levels, as well as increasing of serum Troponin-l, cardiac damage and inducing of different cytogenetic damageen_US
