Abstract: This research aims to highlight the current situation of some Iraqi ancient cities by taking the Hit Castle as a case study. It is one of the oldest cities in Iraq. Due to the previous circumstances that Iraq has one through, this city was ignored and not looked after. Furthermore, due to the expensive land in this city, many old houses were demolished and rebuilt in a modern style. In order to conserve this ancient city, the urban sustainable approaches are suggested to be used. For this purpose, a study was made and a site observation was carried out. Based on that, it was found that this city could be redeveloped/ rehabilitated by employing the urban sustainability approaches and concepts. Important recommendations have been identified and the governmental bodies will be invited to conserve the ancient cities using these recommendations as guidelines.
