Aim of the study was to evaluate the antioxidant levels in cases of gestational hypertension (GH). In this casecontrol study, a total of 72 subjects (42 pregnant women with GH and 30 pregnant women with normal blood pressure) aged between 18-42 years were enrolled. The systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and serum levels of uric acid, albumin, total cholesterol, TG and LDL were increased significantly in women with gestational hypertension in comparison to the control group (P<0.001). On the other hand, the SOD and GR levels were significantly (P<0.001) decreased in the GH group compared to the control group. The data analysis showed a positive significant correlation between the serum levels of SOD and GR levels (P<0.001). In addition, there was a significant negative correlation between serum SOD, GR concentrations and SBP, DBP, uric acid, albumin, total cholesterol, TG, LDL(P<0.001, 0.05). The results of the receiver operator curve analysis of the AUC curves, detected the ascending order of age (0.628), BMI (0.662), DBP (0.794), SOD (0.861), GR (0.871), albumin (0.971), TG (0.971), SBP (0.979), uric acid (0.980), total cholesterol (0.985), LDL (0.992). This study supports the results of previous studies that indicated the involvement of oxidative stress in cases of gestational hypertension. The levels of enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants can have a significant role in the diagnosis of this disease and contribute to the mechanisms of treatment.en_US
