ADAPTATION OF SOME MAIZE HYBRIDS TO DROUGHT UNDER IRRIGATION TREATMENTS AND FOLIAR APPLICATION WITH ANTITRANSPARENT

Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at the Experimental Station, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University, during the two successive summer seasons of 2012 and 2013. The main objectives of this study were to determine the effect of irrigation treatments and foliar application times with antitransparent materials such as Green Miracle as well as their interactions on growth, yield and its components and grains quality of some maize hybrids. Each irrigation treatment was performed in separate experiment. Every experiment of irrigation treatment was carried out in strip-plot design with three replications. The studied irrigation experiments were as follows: 1- Normal irrigation (6 irrigations) i.e. control treatment. 2- Skipping second and third irrigations (4 irrigations). 3- Skipping second and fifth irrigations (4 irrigations). The vertical plots were occupied with the following two maize hybrids: 1- Single Cross 30 M 84 (SC 30M84). 2- Three – Ways Cross B 3521 (TWC B 3521). The horizontal plots were assigned to four treatments of foliar application times with antitransparent materials such as Green Miracle: 1- Without foliar application (control treatment). 2- Foliar application with Green Miracle after 20 days from sowing (DFS) at the rate of 1 Liter Green Miracle/200 liter water/fed.
