Hydrocarbon Compounds
Issue Date: 2020
Abstract: This research included study of Al-Ahdab field crude oil (Iraq - Kut). This is the first study conducted in details for the components of crude oil. The work is included several stages:- Stage one: Involve the Physical measurements and some chemical tests on Al Ahdab field crude oil. Al-ahdab crude oil was found to be of medium type (API> 25), and it contains very little water content (0.0%)wt, sulfur (3%)wt and mineral elements (0.01%)wt. Stage two: SARA separations (saturated paraffins, aromatic compounds, resins and asphalt) were performed where the insoluble elements were deposited and were (4%). Subsequently, the asphalt was deposited using low hydrocarbon solvents (C6) and its ratio was (%14). Maltenes, which are the soluble fraction of the asphalt deposition process, were separated using a solid-liquid separation technique to three components (saturated compounds, aromatic ring, resin). Stage three: Diagnoses were performed using spectroscopy (FT-IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR). Gestel (IG) and aromatic IA (IA) were studied and it was found that Humpback Crude Oil has low solid content. The molecular weight of crude oil components was calculated using Gel-Chromatography (GPC) technology. Stage four:-Studies have been conducted on the asphalt component only. The study included the study of the thermal behavior of asphalt and found that it is a material with regular thermal behavior and that it contains groups. Its behavior was binary at (Exothermic) and at (Endothermic) and it gave two thermal values, and it was (TG =148 C°) and the final melting point was (598 C°). The XRD scheme for asphalt has been studied and it has been shown to contain crystalline sites in spite of being non crystalline materials. The results of this study are identical in the physical, chemical and spectral properties which are in line with theoretical expectations
