Abstract: | The increasing number of vehicles on the roads in the entire world has become the major cause for various outcomes like accident, congestion, and pollution. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) may be the key solution can mitigates these problems significantly. The ITS infrastructure open many options to suggest a solutions for the network roads problems. Many countries have already started planning or implementation various solutions with the help of automotive vehicles. Vehicles on the road with some common interests can cooperatively form a platoon, in which a vehicle follows another one and maintains a small and nearly constant distance to the preceding vehicle. The member vehicle of the platoon considers as an autonomous vehicle that can drive in the road automatically. This study suggest a scheme that supporting platoon driving. The scheme improves the communication technology of platoon according to DSRC protocol with VANET to broadcast the safety message via V2V. In addition, the vehicles exchange the data with the Road Side Unit (RSU) through V2I. The stability of the platoon which is the major problem of platoon driving is achieved through using the cloud computing capability in the RSU. This capability is satisfying through the connection between the leader vehicle and RSU. As the RSU is involved a cooperative as a service (CoaS) to inform the leader vehicle about a situation of the road. We estimate our scheme with a number of metrics and parameters such as end-to-end delay, response time, and network density in real map of urban Manhattan grid and using VANET MOBISIM mobility generator to measure the effect the increasing the vehicle density. |
