Abstract: | A field experiment was carried out during the Winter season 2020-2021 in Zakhikha village - Hit district - Anbar Governorate, in order to study the effect of planting dates on the growth and yield of some flax cultivars. The experiment was applied according to split-plots arrangement using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The main-plots included four planting dates (15th October, 1st November, 15th November and 1st December), while the investigated five flax genotypes (Sakha1, Sakha4, Sakha5, Sakha6 and local cultivar)were assigned to sub-plots. 1- Sakha6 genotype surpassed the highest average of stem diameter, number of main and fruiting branches, number of leaves per plant, leaves total chlorophyll content which reached 3.30 mm, 6.22 branch plant-1, 21.03 fruiting branch plant-1, 291.30 leaf plant-1 and 42.52 SPAD, respectively. However, the same genotype took the minimum number of days to reach full maturity which was 130.58 days, while Sakha4 genotype exceeded with the highest average plant height of 110.66 cm. – 2- Flax plants that were planted on the early 15th October outperformed significantly in the traits of plant height, stem diameter, number of vegetative branches and number of leaves per plant amounted to 131.17 cm, 3.44 mm and 3.44 branches plant-1 and 341.43 leaves plant-1 respectively. Accordingly, plants needed longest duration for maturity reached 144.53 days, while plants of 15th November date were outperformed with the highest average of fruiting branches number per plant and the total content of chlorophyll (20.26 branches plant-1 and 42.19 SPAD). 3- Plants of 15th November date achieved a significant superiority in number of capsules per plant, 1000 seeds weight, seed yield, harvest index and the percentage and oil of seeds reached 64.18 capsules plant-1, 7.08 g, 2.402 t h-1, 21.27%, 34.28% and 0.818 t h- 1, respectively. Even though, plants of 1st December the last planting date were superior in seeds number per capsule which was 8.33 seeds capsule-1, while the plants of the early date 15th October were distinguished by the highest biological yield value of 13.89 t h-1. The interaction between the two studied factors had a significant effect on the studied traits, as Sakha6 cultivar that was planted in 15th November, achieved the highest seed yield of 2.666 t ha-1. |
